The face of defeat: Tony Bellew stops David Haye in fifth round

"I'll beat him but he'd go down as a far greater fight than me".

Bellew has made a habit out of using his knockout prowess to overcome serious odds-Haye was as high as a 6/1 favorite. "I don't cry in front of my missus, I try and hide it but you know what I'm broke".

Despite improving on his worst performance and beginning convincingly - and to the extent Bellew was under constant threat - following an exchange in the third Haye proved no longer able to take a punch.

Bellew has set his sights on fighting fellow Briton Tyson Fury and American Andre Ward after his 30th win from 33 fights. He courageously got up, only for Bellew to force the stoppage moments later.

Haye had hoped a win on Saturday might propel him to a lucrative bout with Britain's reigning world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, but that dream was ended in brutal fashion by Bellew.

But take nothing away from Bellew who, at 35, was at his best as he outsmarted the former heavyweight champion.

"We've enjoyed working with Hayemaker Boxing Promotions and it seemed an obvious choice to extend our sponsorship to David Haye himself".

Saturday's fight began with the two protagonists indulging in a cagey dance for the first six minutes. Bellew throws a couple of combinations but they don't fully land. In the first meeting 13 months ago, Haye ruptured his Achilles tendon in the sixth frame and it was all downhill for him from there. Tony Bellew knocked down opponent with a strong left punch.

Note that you can only watch Haye vs Bellew on a single device or platform at any given time - there's no cheeky workaround that lets you go in with your mates.

James Buckley, who played Jay in popular TV programme The Inbetweeners, interrupted the press conference mock Haye's promoter Adam Moralee. But Saturday's fight was evidence that Haye's body can not cope with the rigorous training and gruelling bouts any more.

Bellew misses with the right body hook. Between the two of them, Haye landed the better shots.

He added: "David Haye is an incredible fighter, take nothing away from him".

Bellew was the more controlled fighter, trusting his jab throughout, though Haye managed to unleash his powerful right hand in disjointed early rounds.

Bellew admitted a fight with Fury would have to be soon in order to capitalise as the former WBA, IBF and WBO world heavyweight champion ends a spell of over two years out of the ring on 9 June. He stumbled back to his corner.
