Most of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park has been closed since May 11 because of earthquakes and continuous explosions from the volcano's summit crater. Over the weekend, the US Geological Survey Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reported more than 500 earthquakes in a 24-hour period - the most ever measured by HVO scientists.

The natural disaster was the 14th measuring between magnitude 3.0 and 5.5 to strike the volcano within the last 24 hours, according to quake Track real-time data.

The United States Geographical Survey (USGS) has continued to place Kilauea volcano under red alert, meaning it is still now spewing lava.

Most earthquakes associated with the ongoing Kilauea Volcano eruption are in the magnitude 2-3 range.
